It was not for a more powerful processor, larger battery, sharper camera, titanium body, and Corning Gorilla Armor glass I upgraded to a Galaxy S24 Ultra from my old S23 Ultra. What intrigued me more was the integration of generative AI in the S24 series. After purchasing the S24 Ultra, I was impressed by its AI capabilities. Below is a list of all 16 Galaxy AI features, along with instructions for using them.

Most of the Galaxy AI features on the S24 Series take advantage of Google’s Gemini Nano model and run locally on-device. However, Google Cloud-based AI features that rely on Gemini Ultra, Imagen 2, Generative Edit² (powered by Gemini Pro), etc. require an internet connection. Samsung plans to charge users for some of these features from 2025 onwards.

Anyway, let’s check out the list of all the AI features on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

  1. Open the Samsung Notes app from the app drawer.
  2. Create a new note or open an existing one.
  3. Tap on the Galaxy AI icon on the bottom ribbon.;

While the AI Translate feature in Samsung Notes translates only the selected text, the Chat Translation feature keeps working automatically once enabled. It works with the Samsung Keyboard active while using apps like Android Messages, Samsung Messages, WhatsApp, Signal, LINE, Instagram, Google Chat, KakaoTalk, and Tango. It doesn’t yet support apps like Messenger, Telegram, Facebook, etc.

Let’s see how it works.

  1. Open a supported messaging app listed above on your Samsung Galaxy S24.
  2. Open a chat and tap the text input box to bring up the Samsung Keyboard.

4. Circle to Search

This is the most easily accessible and interesting Galaxy AI feature. Powered by Google’s Generative AI, Circle to Search lets you search for anything on Google. The feature is not exclusive to the Galaxy S4 as you can also enjoy it on Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. This feature is helpful when it comes to finding recipes, getting information about any on-screen item, shopping online, etc. You can further refine your search by adding text queries with the image.

You can replace the current note with the processed text using the Replace option.

  • Moving objects or people in a picture.
  • Resizing objects and people in images.
  • Removing people and objects from a picture and filling the gaps in the background.
  • Erasing shadow and reflection
  • Adding copied objects and people from the clipboard to pictures.
  • Creating stickers with the objects and people extracted from an existing image.

9. Interpreter

This Galaxy AI feature can be helpful during communication with someone who speaks a foreign language. The Interpreter app takes voice input and translates it into text, which is then spoken using text-to-speech technology. You have to set the preferred languages manually. Since it processes languages on-device, you must download the preferred language packs.

Here is how to use Interpreter on your Samsung Galaxy S24:

  1. Go to the Quick Settings panel, look for Interpreter, and tap it.launch samsung interpreter from quick settings
  2. In the Interpreter app screen, select the languages for both parties.
  3. Then tap the mic icon to start a conversation. You can flip the top language card so the other person can see the translated text.using galaxy s24 interpreter app

Since the spoken languages are processed in real-time, only the most recent voice input and its translation are visible on-screen throughout the conversation. However, you can view the previous voice input texts and their translations. You can also play the last conversations by tapping the Play button next to each item. To access your conversations, tap the 3-dot icon in the top-right corner of the screen and select Recents.

10. Instant Slow-Mo

Instant Slow-Mo is a feature that slows down videos instantly. To achieve the effect, it adds AI-generated images between the frames. This can be done by tapping and holding on a video in the gallery preview, which triggers the instant function. The video plays in slow motion as long as you keep it tapped and held.

The following video shows the Instant Slow-mo feature in action.

You can also add slow-motion effects to selected frame ranges in your videos manually using the Edit option in Samsung Gallery. You can choose from the available speed modifiers (that include 0.125x, 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, and 2x) to make sections of your videos slower or faster.

11. Live Translate (Samsung Phone)

Galaxy AI’s Live Translate feature is available during calls in the Samsung Phone app. It works on-device with the aid of the 17 language packs available so far. Needless to say, you have to download the preferred language pack beforehand and set it manually. The transcript of the conversation can be viewed on the screen. The person on the other end will hear the transcription in the language you have for them.

12. Spelling and Grammar Check & Writing Style

Spelling and Grammar and Writing Style are Samsung keyboard-specific features that work with all apps except web browsers. They are key components of Samsung’s Write Assist tool that help with writing without spelling and grammatical errors. The Writing Style component offers 5 tones: Professional, Casual, Social, Polite, and Emojify. Both features have a maximum text capacity of 500 and 1250 characters for on-device and online processing respectively.

Here is how to use these Galaxy AI features on the Samsung S4 phones with the Samsung Keyboard app.

  1. Open a messaging or note-taking app on your Galaxy S24.
  2. Type some text with at least 200 to 500 characters.

14. Transcript Assist

The Transcript Assist in the Samsung Voice Recorder app uses text-to-speech technology to process voice and call recordings to provide transcripts. You need to set one of the 17 available languages to generate transcripts. This feature has a limitation of processing recordings up to 3 hours long. If AI detects multiple speakers, it labels transcripts with numbers (Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc.). Once the transcript is ready, you can summarize it to quickly review lectures, meetings, voice memos, etc.

Below is an example of a transcript of a call recording on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

15. Translate

We already checked how to translate chats and calls on the Samsung S24 series phones using Galaxy AI. The feature also works in apps like Samsung Notes and Samsung Internet. The feature automatically detects the source language but you need to set the second language manually.

16. Photomoji

This feature is not a part of the Galaxy AI features. This feature called ‘Magic Compose‘ is powered by Gemini Nano and Generative Edit and works in the RCS chat on the Google Messages app. Magic Compose takes on the task of composing messages for you. As you type your message during a text conversation, it provides context-aware suggestions or complete sentences to reply with in real time.

The Photomoji feature lets you create custom emojis from photos stored in your phone’s gallery. Unfortunately, I could not make Photomoji work on my Galaxy S24 Ultra but here’s how it works.
