Quick Access is one of the new features that were introduced in Windows 10. Favorites option in the File explorer is replaced with the Quick Access feature. The new file explorer in Windows 10 has two new sub-options: Frequent folders and Recent files under this section. Most recently accessed files and folders will be displayed in the new file explorer instead of the drives which we used to see in the earlier versions of Windows file explorer.
Most of us share our PC with our friends and family members, so the quick access could possibly be a privacy threat. As we don’t want others to see our recently used files and folders, we would like to hide them. In order to protect your privacy, disabling this feature will be a better idea. In this tutorial we will see how to remove recent files from Quick Access in Windows 10.
Remove Recent files from Quick access in Windows 10
The Quick Access feature can be disabled either by setting the This PC as default but that won’t be enough for most of us. Instead, we will see how to entirely disable the recent files from Quick Access feature from the Windows File Explorer.
- Open the File explorer in Windows by either clicking on the icon in the below task bar or by pressing shortcut key Win+E.
- File explorer window will appear on the screen. Click on File tab and select Change folder and search options from the drop down menu.
- Folder options window will appear on the screen. Under General tab in Privacy section, un-check Show recently used files in quick access check box.
- Now click on Apply button and click on OK button to save the settings.
Now open the file explorer and you won’t find the recent files in the Quick access section. Didn’t you find it simple?
